Holiday weekend should get people back in shape for the move next week. But after the holiday, some people even experience 'jetlag' namely lackluster so sleepy and less productive on Monday.
Usually people experience jet lag after traveling by plane to a certain area with very different time zone. Jetlag on Mondays only term to describe someone who is sleepy at inappropriate times.
Sleep disorders expert from Edinburgh Sleep Centre, Dr Chris Idzikowski said one of the triggers 'jetlag' on Monday is too much sleep on the weekends. As a result, the biological clock or body clock to slow down and take time to adjust.
"It's kind of a mild form of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Biological clock is slowed down if it had worked hard all week, then suddenly slept on the weekends," said Dr Idzikowski as quoted by the Guardian, Monday (30/05/2011).
SAD itself is a mood disorder that often appear in some people every change of seasons, especially winter and summer. Appropriate season, SAD is characterized by symptoms of depression often called Summer Winter Blues or Blues.
Same as SAD, symptoms of sleepiness on Monday also be caused by changes in biological clock. If the SAD difference in the length of the trigger is the sun shining, sleepy on Monday more driven by changes in one's activity follows the pattern of sleep.
On weekends, most people choose to get up day than usual and even went to bed after activities such as bathing and light breakfast. More and more time devoted to sleep, body rhythms adjust more difficult when I had to go back to routine.
On the other hand, lack of rest over the holiday can also trigger a sense of tired when I had to back the move. This condition will worsen the stress that has accumulated over the previous week, and cause intolerable drowsiness.
Whatever the trigger, employees who are always in need of adaptation at the beginning of the week is considered very disturbing productivity. A manpower consultancy firm in the UK, Office Angels record losses due to falling asleep on Monday could reach Rp 1.6 trillion each year.
Some people do have a biological clock that is flexible, so seldom sleepy or have trouble with adaptation at the beginning of the week. But for those who are always problematic, in the following ways this can be done to reduce its impact.
1. Get used to repay the job
If it is difficult to overcome drowsiness every week, doing what can be done before the holiday weekend. To some extent this will reduce the burden on the beginning of the week so no problem if a little sleepy, because his rhythm became more lax.
2. Departing early on Monday
In a hurry at the beginning of the week will only increase the level of stress, especially if you have to get stuck traffic jams. By arriving early, the rhythm can be more loose and avoid congestion.
3. Ensure adequate rest at weekend
Enough rest is nothing less and not excessive. As much as possible not to alter sleep patterns, for example by not waking up too late and sleeping too late on weekends.
4. Be positive in the beginning of the week
Stress on Mondays often will take place throughout the week, because it is prevented by always thinking positive. Enjoy the work and do whatever it takes to not complain at all, because complaining will only increase the stress which in turn make more sleepy.
5. Short break
If the sleep was unbearable, rest to avoid mistakes or carelessness. Doing light activities such as going to the toilet or chat briefly with co-workers can reduce stress and drowsiness.
